established in 1991
Cardiff by the Sea Lodge was built in 1991 as a beautiful and quaint ocean getaway. The lodge was founded and built by two well-known residents of the small town of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, a married couple named James and Janette. One was an architect, the other an interior designer.
When the couple first bought the property on Chesterfield and San Elijo, they had ideas for a small hotel. Before they actually started building the hotel, James and Janette went on a trip through Europe for their 25th wedding anniversary. They spent most of their nights in unique B&Bs, which inspired the quaint bed and breakfast style that the Cardiff by the Sea Lodge features today.
James designed and built the entire 17-room lodge while his wife, Janette, decorated. Janette decorated each of the rooms with a unique theme and style to give the lodge a true bed & breakfast feel reminiscent of their travels abroad and unlike any other hotel in the area.
Today, the Cardiff Lodge sits with views of the beautiful Pacific Ocean, flowers that bloom year-round and stunning nightly sunsets over the water. The lodge still possesses the distinctive rooms and qualities that James and Janette designed many years ago, ensuring a one-of-a-kind experience for guests.
We look forward to your stay with us.
